Mrs. Cheryl Overschmidt

Hi!  My name is Cheryl Overschmidt and I am the First grade teacher at St. John’s.  My teaching career began at St. John’s in the fall of 1991.  I married my husband, Glen, in April of 1991.

I reside in Union and have two children, Jenna and Jeff.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.  I earned my Master’s Degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri.

I love teaching first graders at St. John’s because they are so enthusiastic and ready to learn.  The small classes allow me to really get to know each child.  All of the people at St. John’s make it a great place to teach!

First Grade Curriculum:

The First grade curriculum consists of the following classes:  math, reading, English, phonics, spelling, religion, handwriting, social studies, science, and art.  The students attend P.E. [Physical Education] and Music classes twice a week.  During the first semester of first grade, the students participate in a phonics program called “Writing to Read”.  Students attend Mass three times a week and are involved in reading at Mass twice a month.  We also participate in service projects throughout the year.
